There is no single fixed timeframe set by law — the payment date should be specified in your settlement agreement itself, which is exactly why it is one of the details worth checking before you sign.
When will I be paid?
Most settlement agreements set a payment date of somewhere between 7 and 28 days after signing, the termination date, or receipt of your signed adviser's certificate — the agreement will specify which of these triggers the countdown.
Worth checking
If your agreement doesn't include a clear payment date, it's worth asking for one to be added before you sign. A vague or missing date leaves you without a clear point at which you can say your employer is late. Our article on how figures are calculated covers what should make up the payment itself.
If the agreed date passes and you haven't been paid, you're not without options. Your settlement agreement is a legally binding contract, and a missed payment can be treated as a breach of it, meaning you retain the right to pursue what you're owed.
